Ever wanted to make Windows update the system time from the Internet more than every second week?
This webpage will guide you into setting up the update frequency according to your own wish. Furthermore, you may add more servers to choose from.
All this can be done without installing new programs on your computer. All you have to use is already inside the Windows operating system.
To change the update frequency you must run the RegEdit.exe program. Do so by selecting the Start button at the lower left corner.
If you are using Windows in "slow mode" i.e. maximum graphical bells and whistles enabled the visual impression may look a bit different.
In the "Search programs and files"box type regedit and press enter.
Then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient and select SpecialPollInterval.
Then right click and select "Modify." Now select "Decimal" and then change the value of the update interval to the one that suits your purpose, e.g. 300 seconds equal to 5 minutes.
If you want to add more time servers navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DateTime\Servers
Rename the new server to the next number in the sequence. In the example it is "6".
Next right click the new server and select modify and then enter the server NTP server e.g. www.myserver.net.
From the Start button select the "Control Panel."
Next select the "Date and Tme".
In the Date and Time window select the "Internet Time" tabsheet.
Press "Change settings." Then tick "Synchronize with an Internet time server."
Select the relevant time server and press "Update now."
You have now completed all the steps needed to change the update interval and adding a new server.
