Omron G5V-2 Relay Measurements

Purpose

The purpose of this webpage is to analyse the RF performance of an Omron G5V-2 12 V relay.

Measurements

Measurements carried out on an HP8753C with S-parameter set. Power level is 0 dBm unused port is terminated in a 20 dB attenuator.

The contact sets were paralleled.

Return loss (S11) and insertion loss (S21) between Common and Off ports. Coil off.

Return loss (S11) and insertion loss (S21) between Common and On ports. Coil on.

Return loss (S11) and isolation (S21) between Common and Off ports. Coil is on.

Return loss (S11) and isolation (S21) between Common and On ports. Coil is off.

Conclusion

There seems to be no difference in performance between the two ports, i.e. "Common to Off" and "Common to On."

Insertion loss wise the relay may be used up to 250 MHz, hereafter the loss increases from 0,2 dB. The isolation is >22 dB below 144 MHz which might be the determinating factor. Return loss is >20 dB below 350 MHz.
